YARD-O-LED proudly reintroduces its historic archive model, ‘The Deco 34’, originally produced in 1930. This limited-edition reimagining faithfully recreates the original design in tribute to the gold pencil that famously saved the life of Lt. Leslie March in 1942.
Regarded as a treasured “lucky charm,” the original pencil remained a cherished family heirloom and enduring symbol of Lt. March’s bravery. It was later donated to the YARD-O-LED museum by his stepbrother, Mr. Kelly, who, at the age of 90, still fondly remembers Leslie as “my hero.”
The original “Deco 34” had long since disappeared from production, requiring YARD-O-LED to painstakingly recreate the original tooling in order to reproduce this remarkable piece of history. With its distinctive square body, intricate pattern, and unusual ball clip, the Deco 34 stands apart from every other writing instrument in the current YARD-O-LED collection.
Each piece is individually handmade in the Birmingham workshop using the very same machinery that would have crafted Lt. Leslie March’s original pencil, preserving the authenticity and craftsmanship of the era.
A leather pen holder is included with every pencil. As each piece is handmade to order, slight variations from the original model and photographs are to be expected, adding to the individuality of every instrument. Please allow 2–3 weeks for delivery.
A percentage of proceeds from each sale will be donated to the Royal Marines Charity, supporting Royal Marines and their families.
