Essex-born John Horsewell is a British artist shaped by a strong family heritage in professional art. Surrounded by creativity from an early age, he developed a natural eye for composition and atmosphere.

At school, he explored multiple media before choosing oils for their richness and ability to capture light, depth, and shadow with precision.

He later worked in interior design while continuing to paint in his spare time. After exhibiting locally, his reputation grew across Manchester, Birmingham, and London. In 1978, he became a full-time artist.

Horsewell draws inspiration from landscapes he knows and loves, from Southern Europe to Florida’s tranquil coastlines. Using brushes and palette knives, he creates textured, expressive works filled with movement and light.
