Listed with EB London by Geoffrey Parker, the Silver Jubilee Chess Cabinet is a distinguished interpretation of a design first conceived in the 1960s and later refined for HM The Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977. Originally produced in precious metals and admired for its presence and ideal playing weight, the pieces were subsequently reimagined in solid brass with chrome plating preserving their sculptural elegance while offering a more attainable expression of the design. The King, Rook and Knight bear an embossed crown, the Bishops remain unadorned in quiet symbolism, and an additional pair of Queens completes the professional set. Each piece is hand inlaid in Dauphin calf leather, creating a refined contrast between polished metal and supple leather.
The slim, leather-bound cabinet is designed to both present and protect, securing each piece in black felt so they remain perfectly organised for travel or storage. A matching inlaid leather chessboard may be commissioned separately to complete the ensemble. Handmade to order and available in a wide selection of Dauphin calf leathers with bespoke and exotic options offered on request this cabinet reflects EB London’s commitment to craftsmanship, material integrity and timeless British design.
