The Story

The Shard Collection by CTO Lighting draws inspiration from the intersection of brutalist strength and modernist elegance. Its design evokes fragmented forms reduced to flat planes and thoughtfully reassembled into a blossoming structure that directs light upwards, diffusing it softly to create a calm yet captivating ambient glow.

The petal-like silhouette of the pendant embraces the sharp, angular language of brutalist architecture, while the use of natural materials introduces warmth and subtlety, softening the overall aesthetic within an interior setting.

Recognising a growing demand for refined, contemporary lighting, CTO Lighting turned its focus towards the use of more luxurious materials. Under the guidance of founders Chris and Clare, the studio embraced hand-finished brass, mouth-blown glass and artisan-crafted stone, establishing a distinctive approach to materiality and detail. This considered refinement led to CTO Lighting being recognised as a British luxury lighting brand, with manufacturing rooted in the UK.

CTO Lighting has collaborated with leading industry figures including David Collins Studio, Philippe Starck and Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, contributing to prestigious interiors worldwide. The studio has also been commissioned to create bespoke lighting for landmark destinations such as The Savoy, The Dorchester London, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse.

Working with respected, award-winning designers including Autoban, Michaël Verheyden and Stéphane Parmentier, CTO Lighting continues to bring depth and character to its collections. In 2016, the brand opened its first exclusive London showroom, offering a dedicated space to present its work. Today, the collection is distributed globally through leading design-led retailers and specified by international interior designers and architects.

• Care: The piece by CTO Lighting should be dusted regularly using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to maintain its refined finish. Harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners and metal polishes should be avoided, as they may damage the surface and natural materials. Light marks or fingerprints may be removed with a slightly damp cloth, followed by gentle drying. Glass and metal elements should always be handled with care to preserve their crafted detail and longevity.
