Joe Galindo — Contemporary Animal Art | EB London

Joe Galindo
Born in Yorkshire. Shaped by the world.
Joe Galindo was born in Mirfield, West Yorkshire in 1994. From an early age, he showed a natural talent with a pencil — a gift that would eventually lead him to one of the most distinctive artistic voices in contemporary British art.
After university and several years in conventional employment, Joe chose to put his ability to use. He began painting pets, footballers and musicians, taking commissions from social media to fund his passion, before launching his abstract landscapes into galleries.
But at 24, Joe felt the pull of something greater. He put down the brush, left his hometown behind, and spontaneously moved to Vietnam. His travels took him across Asia and eventually to Australia, where he began painting again — selling work in Melbourne and Sydney, drawing inspiration from the jungles, coastlines and wildlife he encountered, and from the artists he met along the way.
In 2022, after a final stop in Sri Lanka, Joe returned home to rekindle his passion and pursue his purpose.
The key to Galindo’s unique style is the inventive ways he applies paint to canvas. By layering different techniques and mediums, he creates depth and contrast — powerful contemporary colours abstractly incorporated with details of wild animals in a loose, energetic style. Each piece demands attention and invites the viewer to interpret it individually.
Joe attempts to express his own emotion and sentiment through the faces of his animals, building a genuine connection between the artwork and the viewer. He uses unorthodox tools — spoons, nails, bits of rubber — to apply paint, and each piece is truly irreplicable, shaped by the spontaneous flick of a wrist or the sweep of an arm.
